The President of the Georgian Trade Unions Confederation met with the Ambassador of the European Union together with the leaders of the member organizations

 

The meeting was planned for a long time and aimed to discuss about challenges and developments, which are very important and relevant for the employees. Special attention should be paid to the social issues that were discussed in the process of EU integration and are an important part of the enlargement document.  These are such initiatives set by the Georgian Trade Unions Confederation at the international level over the years, which were finally reflected in these document and regulates such issues: minimum wages, social protection, unemployment benefit, gender inequality, social dialogue and etc. However, in accordance with the situation created in the Country, obviously, none of the parties could not be able to reject the discussion about the current law in the parliament of Georgia.

 

The ambassador of the EU stated, that the door of the EU is open for Georgia, but, Georgia should take steps, that will  promote EU integration and  not the other way around. Therefore, Georgia should use the unique chance, which is now given to the Country in the context of enlargement, in EU integration. Ones more time expressed the hope, that draft law will not be adopted and authorities will not take such steps that will damage the European future of their country.

 

At the meeting, the president of the Georgian Trade Unions Confederation emphasized the importance of the support of international partners and spoke  about the activities and achievements of  the organization with their help.  There is the improvement of legislative framework, restoration of Labour Inspection Service and in general, that the survival of the institution is due to the support of European and Western colleagues.  Georgian Trade Unions Confederation is an organization focused on European values and European way and choice is important for us.

 

At the meeting with the ambassador of the European Union, the vice-presidents of the Georgian Trade Unions Confederation: Raisa Liparteliani and Lavrenti Alania, the chairman of the trade union of civil servants – Nukri Chincharauli, the chairman of Public Service Workers Trade Union of Georgia – Akaki Gvalia, the chairman of the Trade Union of Service Sector, Local and Communal Services Workers’ of Georgia – Marina Kurtanidze, Georgian Railway Workers New Trade Union- Vitali Giorgadze, Chairman of the Georgian Energy Workers’ Trade Union – Nato Shavladze, Chairman of the Tbilisi Metro Workers’ Trade Union – Besik Kharatishvili, Chairman of the Metallurgy, Mining and Chemical  Sector Workers’    Trade Union – Temur Suramlelashvili and Chairman of the Oil, Gas and Coal distribution Workers Trade Union – Gocha Kvitatiani were present.
