Irakli petriashvili, the president of the Georgian Trade Unions Confederation, responds to the recommendation issued by the European Comission regarding the granting of candidate status to Georgia.
“It is truly a historic day for Georgia and the Georgian people! The Georgian Trade Unions Confederation welcomes the positive recommendation issued by the European Commission regarding the granting of candidate status to Georgia. The recommendation, which is the basis for the start of negotiations, so that Georgia can obtain the status of a full member in the near future. We hope that the final conclusion, which will be known in the middle of December, will be a confirmation of this.
The main challenges of the Georgian people are still social, labor and employment. There is a need to implement complex reforms and bring existing standards and practices closer to EU standards.
Georgian Trade Unions Confederation actively worked in this directions, was ready and is ready to continue cooperation with all parties for the improvement of employees right, taking into account that it was within the framework of the Association Agreement of EU that the Georgian Trade Unions Confederation were able to gradually improve the labour legislation.
The chance to get candidate status for Georgia is a guarantee of a worthy future of our country”.
