Irakli Petriashvili, President of the Georgian Trade Unions Confederation, who is also the President of the Pan-European Regional Council of the International Trade Unions Confederation , has left for Brussels on an official visit.
On April 5, Irakli Petriashvili will chair the 17th meeting of the Executive Committee of the Pan-European Regional Council of the International Trade Unions Confederation, where several issues will be discussed.
The main issues to be discussed will be the report of the Executive Meeting of the General Council of the International Trade Unions Confederation on March 28 and the Trade Union actions in support of the ongoing war in Ukraine.
During the visit, Irakli Petriashvili will hold meetings at the European Commission and hear from European colleagues how they are lobbying for the European integration of Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova and what is planned in this direction in the near future.
Recall that during the previous visit, the president of the Georgian Trade Unions Confederation called on the world trade unions to do everything possible to stop the Russian aggression, both humanitarian and political, by lobbying their governments and parties and supporting Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova as EU candidates.
Irakli Petriashvili held several official visits to Brussels and Germany during the Russia-Ukraine war. On February 27, he appealed to the European trade unions to include the issue of current events in Ukraine on the agenda of the General Council.
Speaking at the March 2 meeting on this request, Irakli Petriashvili, as a rapporteur, made it clear that Ukraine is being punished today for its freedom of choice. Georgia, like Ukraine, chooses democracy and freedom of choice.
Within the framework of Ukraine’s support, the Georgian Trade Unions Confederation held a large-scale rally on March 29, where Irakli Petriashvili expressed his unconditional support for the Ukrainian people and stressed the Georgian society’s aspiration for democracy and freedom of choice. In addition, the union provided financial assistance to help the Ukrainian people.
