Today a high-level 2-day international conference on labour safety and inspection was opened in Tbilisi, organized by International Labour Organization (ILO), International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and Georgian Trade Unions Confederation (GTUC).
The title of the regional Conference is ‘Compliance of National Legislation with the ILO No 81 Labour Inspection Convention and the Protocol of 1995.’
Representatives of the ILO and ITUC, the experts and specialists of trade unions of different countries working in the field of labour safety and labour inspection, as well as the representatives of the parliament and government of Georgia attended the conference.
The two-day conference covers the topics of international labour standards, control of enforcement and implementation of labour legislation; the regional perspective and current situation; best practices in the region; promoting strengthening of labour legislation and enforcement institutions, the use of rights and evidence based approaches; Trade Union strategies for overcoming the growing tendency of State’s diminished role in ensuring enforcement;
Representatives from different European countries are presenting reports on the situation of labour inspection in their countries.
The Conference was opened by the president of the Pan-European Regional Council (PERC) of the ITUC, Mr. Irakli Petriashvili, an expert of the ILO Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Mr. Gocha Alexandria, Deputy Minister of IDPs, Labour, Health and Social Affairs, Ms. Tamila Barkalaia and the Chairman of Employers’ Association, Mr. Elguja Meladze.
