Trade Union of Georgia held presentation of research prepared on enforcement of labor rights in the fields of textile and trade. The research was carried out with the support of program on legal approximation of South Caucasus with European Standards of International Cooperation Society of Germany(GIZ).
Among the key findings were numerous violations, including, the fact, that the majority of employees of trade chains and supermarkets do not have their own copies of labor agreement.
The average hours worked during the week in all three sectors exceed number defined under the labor code.
Wages in relation with national average indicator are 40,5%, 62,9% and 51,1%, respectively.
The large majority employed in the all the sectors have to do additional work, which is not included in their main duties.
The part of the employees are docked certain amount from salaries, which is not related to paying taxes.
They are not reimbursed overtime work.
Less than the half of respondents have possibility to enjoy paid vacation. In this regard, the worst situation is in the supermarkets, where only 16,9% of the respondents state, that can have paid vacation. 20,5% mentions, that taking vacation will create problems at work.
Hostile, humiliating, unequal treatment from the side of employer/ director is particularly common in the textile industry.
Discrimination according to age and sex is common in textile industry, as well as, discrimination based on trade union.
Responding the question, whether safety of labor is provided on your workplace, “no” or “partially” was answered: in textile industry 42,1%; in trade network- 17,2% and in the supermarkets- 30,4%.
Dismissing without any reason is the most common in textile industry (16,6%), it is followed by supermarkets (14,4%) and the trading network takes the last place – 0,9%.
