Dear Irakli, I would like to inform you that we have been alerted by the Director of the ILO office in Italy, who in turn has been informed by the Georgian Embassy about the case of 35 Georgian workers, drivers of the Polish company Lukasz Mazur, who were stranded on strike near Bolzano, in northern Italy. We have taken an interest with our local unions. The situation then escalated, as you know, in Grafenhausen, where the owner of the Polish company intervened against the demonstrators accompanied by a paramilitary commando. Only the German police force was able to resolve the unfortunate situation… We want to express our solidarity with the Georgian workers. We hope that their rights can be defended and reinstated. We stand on behalf of all CISL affiliates alongside GTUC in this delicate situation and are ready to support any European initiative to defend the rights of Georgian workers”.
In solidarity, Giuseppe Iuliano, Cisl International Department.
