Raisa Liparteliani, Deputy Chairman of the Georgian Trade Unions Confederation, took part in a working meeting of the International Labour Organization on the 190th Convention “Violence and Harassment in the Workplace”.
The main topic of conversation was: the active participation of the Confederation in the adoption of the Convention; The labour reform carried out in Georgia in 2020 for the purpose of discrimination against women and protection of labour rights and the mechanism for its implementation.
The Vice-Chairman of the Georgian Trade Unions Confederation emphasized the importance of ratifying the Convention, which provides an environment free from violence and harassment for all employees, including those involved in the informal economy.
In this regard, Raisa Liparteliani also stressed the need to introduce tools for formalizing informal employment, such as a decent minimum wage, unemployment benefits, the introduction of effective maternity leave and effective social protection mechanisms at the national level and etc. Finally, she spoke about the importance of the standards set out in the ILO 190 Convention to promote the country’s European Integration Process and ensure decent employment.
