The delegation of the Georgian Trade Unions Confederation takes part in the Fifth Congress of the ITUC about the “New Social Contract for All”. On November 20, the Congress will elect a new General Secretary for a 4-year term. Georgian Trade Unions Confederation supports the General Secretary of the European Trade Unions (ETUC) Luca Vincentini and hopes that it is Vincentini who will win the fight against the rival. Congress shall also elect: President, Vice-Presidents and Deputy General Secretaries. Irakli Petriashvili, President of the Georgian Trade Unions Confederation and President of the Pan-European Regional Council (PERC), presented a report to the Congress, where he thanked ITUC General Secretary Sharan Barrow for his fruitful and tireless work. He focused on the challenges faced by the workers, the importance of the social contract to ensure the well-being of the workers and also spoke about the need for active involvement of youth in trade unions. Irakli Petriashvili paid special attention to the illegal imprisonment of Alexander Yaroshuk, the chairman of the independent trade union of Belarus and his comrades under the dictator Lukashenko’s regime, and once again called on the attending public from all parts of the world to actively participate in the common, solidarity struggle for their release from captivity under the slogan – “Alexander Yaroshuk Libre”. The congress will be held in Melbourne, Australia, and will end on November 22.
