Irakli Petriashvili was elected as the Vice-President of the International Trade Union Confederation.
The 4th World Congress of multi-million organisation unanimously supported Petriashvili’s candidate for this responsible and honourable position. The Congress is taking place in the capital of Denmark and it is attended by 1500 representatives from 164 countries. Support for the position of such rank have never been expressed to any representative of Georgia before.
The success of the President of Georgian Trade Unions Confederation and the Trade Union of Georgia is the clear confirmation of its international recognition as well as the organisation’s democracy and effectiveness.
By electing Petriashvili, our country will have a great lobbyist in the international arena and the employees will have the world-scale defender of their interests.
International Trade Unions Confederation was founded in 2006 and among its founders there were Georgian Trade Unions Confederation and Irakli Petriashvili.
Today there are 331 Trade Unions from 163 countries with 207 million of members, including Georgian Trade Unions Confederation. Currently, the number of members is increasing.
International Trade Unions Confederation is the most wide-scale and influential trade union organisation, its major mission is protection of employees and forwarding their interests through cooperation with trade union organisations, conducting global campaigns and advocacy in the international institutions.
The main areas of its operation are trade union and human rights; economy; society and workplace; equality and combating discrimination; International Trade Unions Confederation is committed to the principles of democracy and independence.
The Organisation has a close relationship with the International Labour Organization and is a major partner of a number of the United Nations specialised agencies.
The World Congress elect the managerial board of the International Trade Unions Confederation once every four years.
