Irakli Petriashvili has completed his official visit in Brussels. The main issues to be discussed at the meetings were the current developments in Ukraine; together with Ukraine, the granting of EU candidate status to Georgia and Moldova and the reforms to be carried out by Georgia on the path to European integration.
President of the Georgian Trade Unions Confederation held a meeting with the chairman of the European Socialist Party, Sergey Stanishev. The Socialist Party has 178 members in the European Parliament.
At the meeting, Irakli Petriashvili discussed the current developments in Ukraine with Sergey Stanishev and asked for his support in the process of granting EU candidate status to Georgia and Moldova together with Ukraine.
Irakli Petriashvili stressed that the prospect of rapprochement with the European Union and integration into it are stimulating the fundamental reforms manifested in the amendments to the Labour Code, the creation of the Labour Inspectorate and the restoration of labour market institutions that simply did not exist. People were left without basic safety standards, which was reflected in the digital number of accidents and deaths.
At the meeting, president of the Georgian trade Unions Confederation noted that granting candidate status to Ukraine alone would increase frustration with the West, both in society and among politicians. It will also stimulate the main postulate of the Russian-produced hybrid war in Georgia that “you still cannot integrate in Europe, you are standing on Europe’s feet”.
Sergey Stanshev expressed readiness to cooperate in order for Georgia to be able to position itself correctly on the roadmap to the European Union. The chairman of the European Socialist Party will do his best to support the European Parliament, along with Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova in their candidacy for EU membership.
Mr. Stanishev expressed his full readiness to work closely with trade unions in Brussels or Tbilisi, during the official or unofficial visits of Member of the European Parliament, to assist Georgia in passing the difficult and dignified path of the European integration process.
