Trade unions have found significant violations during occupational safety inspections of the construction sites in Kutaisi.
According to the initial conclusion on one of the construction sites, the workers at the site are not wearing special protective equipment. The perimeter of the construction site is not protected by appropriate and protective infrastructure (railings, net) inflicting a threat to pedestrians.
A lawyer for Georgian Trade Unions Confederation, Ana Chapidze was unable to contact the company’s representatives and addressed the Kutaisi City Hall Supervision Service and the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia. Due to the above circumstances, Trade Union requested rapid and effective lawful response in accordance with Article 2.2 Decree of the Government of Georgia No477 and eradicate existing violations on the construction site.
The second inspection was carried out in cooperation with the company, which is welcomed. “The external and internal perimeter of the construction site was inspected together with the representatives of the development company West Group. The construction site was found to be incompliance with the occupational safety norms. The company has been given recommendations to address this discrepancy. The company’s representatives have expressed their willingness to eliminate the violations. The company was given a one-month period to fulfil the recommendations.
Despite the fact that the situation in the capital has relatively improved in terms of safety, one could not say the same for other cities. It is important that the construction regulations existing in Tbilisi, which have improved the situation in the capital, to be implemented across Georgia.
Occupation safety inspection was carried out on September 11-12 by occupational safety inspector Mr. Paata Ninua and lawyer of the Georgian Trade Unions, Ana Chapidze.
