The importance of Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova’s EU integration and candidate status, the situation in Ukraine and Belarus, the support and solidarity expressed by the trade union movement for Ukraine, as well as the arrest and persecution of independent trade union leaders in Belarus were the issues, on which the president of the Georgian Trade Unions Confederation spoke at the meeting as a speaker.
Irakli Petriashvili stressed the need not to declare international standards and democratic values but also the need to practice. Because, it will be a guarantee the protection of fundamental human rights and avoid the regimes that have been established in Russia and Belarus.
The President of the Georgian Trade Unions Confederation also drew attention to the situation in the Borjomi factory (in Georgia) and to the persecution and harassment of employees and trade union activists. The Congress is being held in Philadelphia.
