A two-day session organized by the Georgian Trade unions Confederation (GTUC) with the support of the International Labour Organization (ILO)

ILO workers’ activities specialists: Magnus Berge and Gocha Aleksandria discussed the work plan for the next two years with trade union leaders and members. Among the topics discussed were various directions of Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP) and strengthening of the rights of workers, including: improvement of social dialogue, labour safety, collective agreement, legal changes, sharing of practices of other countries within the framework of the DWCP, minimum wage, issue of social security, Importance and opportunities of ratification of conventions, compensation of workers in case of occupational diseases, gender equality, right to strike, child labour, etc. Irakli Petriashvili, the GTUC President, noted that if proper and suitable work is being done in all these directions, the population of the country will have the opportunity to have decent work and life.

Magnus Berge, a specialist in the workers’ activities of the ILO Budapest office, spoke to the trade unions defending the rights of Georgian workers about the work, successes and challenges of the International Labour Organization.
The leaders of the GTUC sectoral organization discussed the sectoral challenges.
Future work plans have been drawn up along with ways as to what kind of activities can be implemented at the regional, sectoral, national or international level.
