A memorandum between GTUC and the Georgian Mediators Association

A memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Georgian Trade Unions Confederation and the Georgian Mediators Association. The purpose of the memorandum is cooperation between the parties for the introduction and popularization of mediation as an alternative dispute resolution mechanism in Georgia, for the timely and effective resolution of disputes.

The parties plan and implement joint events, projects, conferences and other activities, jointly organize training courses, develop and publish joint publications. Mediation is a healthy tool established in the EU countries and in the civilized world, through which the disputing parties find the best solution for them. Mediation is a tool when the parties can reach a mutually acceptable agreement on disputed issues without the involvement of a mediator.

Labor dispute mediation is of particular importance, as protracted litigation inflicts both parties. Mediation in individual labor disputes is an innovetion for Georgia and is  now being formed in our country.  It should be noted that during the pandemic, increased demand for labor issues at the request of employees ,therefore, our cooperation with the Georgian Mediators Association is especially important for the timely and effective resolution of disputes.

The document was signed by Irakli Petriashvili, Chairman of the Georgian Trade Unions Confederation and Irakli Kandashvili, Chairman of the Georgian Mediators Association. The signing of the document was attended by Social Partners,  Deputy Minister of Labor and Health – Tamar Barkalaia and Chairman of  the Employers’ Association – Elguja Meladze.
